What Should I Wear?

What should I wear to a belly dancing class is a question we get all the time.  The Loveland Belly Belles have a gorgeous chiffon costume we wear for performances but for our practices all you need to wear is something you can move in and that makes you feel beautiful.  Here is a sampling from a recent class of what our ladies were wearing:

As you can see we have a wide range of clothes.  Some wear traditional belly dance costumes, some wear long flowing skirts, and others wear yoga type clothes.  When it comes to shoes it is best not to wear athletic type shoes that have a really grippy sole.  We do some twisting moves from time to time and those types of shoes won't always allow you to move that way.  Some of the girls wear zumba type dance shoes, others wear leather bottom ballet type slippers, others wear sandals, and still others go barefoot.

We also recommend you wear some sort of flower in your hair so you can get used to working with a veil without yanking things out of your hair.  Besides wearing flowers in your hair make you feel exotic and beautiful and who doesn't need that sort of encouragement in their life?!?  When you are planning to dance a performance it's a good idea to wear all the accessories you plan to wear for the performance to a couple of practices.  The last thing you want to have happen during a performance is get caught up in a piece of jewelry you didn't realize would interfere with your chiffons or find out that your hair adornment is not something you can navigate your veil around.

So, in summary just come to practice in what you like and what you feel good in...oh, and don't worry about coin belts and veils - we have some for you to borrow.  Although once you get  bitten by the belly dance bug you might find you have more dance clothes than regular clothes!
